Passages are 19th-century inventions of this way of understanding urban life. Architectural forms that look inwards, secure, with controlled entry and exit. Creations of the bourgeoisie with Parisian aspirations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The passage came to Barcelona as an intervention that allowed people to live near the Liceu and the Cathedral within an exclusive bubble. The names are misleading: the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/passatge-del-credit\">Passatge del Cr\u00e8dit<\/a><\/strong>, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/conjunt-del-passatge-del-rellotge\">Passatge del Rellotge<\/a><\/strong> and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/passatge-de-la-banca\">Passatge de la Banca<\/a><\/strong> refer directly to the world of finance, stock market hours and capital. The Passatge del Rellotge was built by the bankers Arn\u00fas i Codina: at the end of the 19th century, every afternoon at three o&#8217;clock, the stock market prices were posted on a counter. Passatge de la Banca is home to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/museu-de-cera-de-barcelona\">Wax Museum<\/a><\/strong>. And at number Passatge del Cr\u00e8dit 4, the liveliest of the three, designed by architect <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/authors\/magi-rius-i-mulet\">Mag\u00ed Rius i Mulet<\/a><\/strong> in 1879 on behalf of the Societat Catalana General de Cr\u00e8dit, a plaque indicates that the painter Joan Mir\u00f3 was born there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La Rambla connects with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/placa-reial-i-passatges-limitrofs\">Plaza Real<\/a><\/strong> via <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/hotel-les-quatre-nacions-i-passatge-bacardi\">Passage Bacard\u00ed<\/a><\/strong>, where you will find the Hotel de les Quatre Nacions, designed by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/authors\/francesc-daniel-molina-i-casamajor\">Francesc Daniel Molina i Casamajor<\/a><\/strong>, one of the most important hotels in the history of Barcelona, according to its list of illustrious guests (Stendhal, Buffalo Bill, Albert Einstein). On the other side is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/passatge-de-la-pau\">Passatge de la Pau<\/a><\/strong>. The five passages form the secret heart of bourgeois Barcelona, surrounded by neo-Gothic architecture. At the turn of the 19th century, Art Nouveau exploded, looking towards the mountains: Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/park-guell\">Park G\u00fcell<\/a><\/strong>, Sarri\u00e0, Sant Gervasi, Pedralbes.
