Winner of awards at prestigious events such as the Cannes Film Festival, the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs, the C\u00e9sars and the Goyas, it stands out above the rest for its Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Clearly, the selection of architecture accompanying the scenes played a part, in one way or another, in its critical and commercial success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is in Barcelona that Manuela (Cecilia Roth) comes to find the father of her son, who recently died in a car accident in Madrid. Accompanied by an old friend, Agrado (Antonia San Juan), but also by Rosa (Pen\u00e9lope Cruz) and Huma (Marisa Paredes), the city is portrayed in such well-known places as the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/monument-a-colom\">Columbus Monument<\/a><\/strong> and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/-GC096-1\">Sagrada Familia<\/a><\/strong>, as well as in other corners off the tourist trail, such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/casa-ramos\">Casa Ramos<\/a><\/strong> in Lesseps, where Rosa&#8217;s parents live, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/hospital-del-mar\">Hospital del Mar<\/a><\/strong>, where Manuela accompanies Rosa to the doctor, and the always picturesque <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/cementiri-de-montjuic\">Montju\u00efc cemetery<\/a><\/strong>, where Rosa is buried after dying of AIDS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pedro Almod\u00f3var&#8217;s artistic director, Antx\u00f3n G\u00f3mez, a Basque living in Barcelona, showed the director from La Mancha different parts of the city so that together they could identify those that would form part of the story of <em>Todo sobre mi madre<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"pld-like-dislike-wrap pld-custom\">\r\n    <div class=\"pld-like-wrap  pld-common-wrap\">\r\n    <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\" class=\"pld-like-trigger pld-like-dislike-trigger  \" title=\"m&#039;agrada\" data-post-id=\"3588\" data-trigger-type=\"like\" data-restriction=\"no\" data-already-liked=\"0\">\r\n                            <img src=\"https:\/\/editorial.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/heart-like.png\" alt=\"m&#039;agrada\" \/>\r\n            <\/a>\r\n    <span class=\"pld-like-count-wrap pld-count-wrap\">7    <\/span>\r\n<\/div><div class=\"pld-dislike-wrap  pld-common-wrap\">\r\n    <a href=\"javascript:void(0)\" class=\"pld-dislike-trigger pld-like-dislike-trigger  \" title=\"no m&#039;agrada\" data-post-id=\"3588\" data-trigger-type=\"dislike\" data-restriction=\"no\" data-already-liked=\"0\">\r\n                            <img src=\"https:\/\/editorial.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/heart-dislike.png\" alt=\"no m&#039;agrada\" \/>\r\n            <\/a>\r\n    <span class=\"pld-dislike-count-wrap pld-count-wrap\"><\/span>\r\n<\/div><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of Pedro Almod\u00f3var&#8217;s most iconic films, released in 1999, has much of it set against the backdrop of the city of Barcelona.
