Arrested and imprisoned in Barcelona&#8217;s Modelo prison for the alleged murder of a police officer in a shootout, he was sentenced to death by a court martial that saw him as the ideal scapegoat to avenge the assassination, a few months earlier, of Admiral Luis Carrero Blanco. Puig Antich was the last person sentenced to death in Spain to be executed by garrote vil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a route that takes in some of the city&#8217;s most emblematic buildings \u2014 although not particularly touristy \u2014 such as the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/preso-model\">Modelo prison<\/a><\/strong>, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/hospital-clinic-i-provincial-de-barcelona\">Hospital Cl\u00ednic<\/a><\/strong> and the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/universitat-literaria-de-barcelona\">University of Barcelona<\/a><\/strong>, it may come as a surprise to see a new building that was considered avant-garde at the time, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/works\/edificis-trade\">Trade<\/a><\/strong> Towers, which <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/authors\/jose-antonio-coderch-de-sentmenat\">Jos\u00e9 Antonio Coderch<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arquitecturacatalana.cat\/en\/authors\/manuel-valls-i-verges\">Manuel Valls<\/a><\/strong> had built just a couple of years before the events took place.
